Sweet Home 3D Pricing 2026: Free Desktop & Store Subscriptions

The important pricing distinction is not just desktop versus phone. It is the free GPL download versus an app-store installation with premium subscriptions. Pick the distribution first, then compare its billing terms and included tools. For architecture, Render a House is the more efficient alternative: it renders from your own design in the browser with no GPU; failed renders don't use credits, and each render includes up to 2 free retries if the result isn't right.

Sweet Home 3D Pricing 2026: Free Desktop & Store Subscriptions

How much does Sweet Home 3D cost in 2026?

Sweet Home 3D costs $0 in 2026 for the GPL desktop installer and Online version, including personal or commercial use under the official FAQ’s terms. Store apps are free to install with premium purchases: the US iOS listing includes $2.99 or $4.99/week and $29.99 or $59.99/year. You do not need a store subscription to use the free GPL desktop version. If you already have a plan or 3D view and need a photorealistic architectural render, Render a House is the more efficient alternative for architecture: it renders from your own design in the browser with no GPU; failed renders don't use credits, and each render includes up to 2 free retries if the result isn't right.

Checked October 27, 2026. The official download page still calls store and mobile editions “paid,” while current store listings show free downloads with premium subscriptions. Both descriptions appear in the sources; this guide separates installation cost from premium billing rather than treating them as one price.

Multiple prices for the same period are listed, not recommendations or a promise that every offer appears at checkout. The iOS listing describes weekly or yearly auto-renewing subscriptions and trials only on selected subscriptions. Its description says “premium app features” without defining exactly which features each purchase unlocks. Check that detail before authorizing payment.

Free desktop versus the store download

The official desktop download page lists version 7.5 for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It distinguishes the free SourceForge downloads from store editions with larger bundled libraries and automatic updates. On macOS, it lists 929 furniture pieces and 26 textures free, versus 10,894 pieces and 423 textures in the store version. On Windows, the corresponding figures are 100 furniture pieces and 26 textures free, versus 10,836 and 423 in the store edition.

That is a library comparison, not evidence that the GPL installer needs a premium plan. The FAQ explicitly allows free personal and commercial use and optional donations. The user guide also points to more than 1,600 contributor models. Before subscribing for a larger catalog, decide whether the included free objects and import workflow cover the rooms you actually need to present.

One Mac-specific import detail matters: the Mac App Store FAQ says OBJ, DAE, and 3DS imports must be inside a ZIP or KMZ. Do not assume an import workflow you tested with another edition will behave identically in that store build.

Online and Mobile: free does not mean identical

Online Manager runs in a WebGL browser without installation, offers free registration to save designs, and is presented as a way to test features before downloading. It is a sensible first stop if you want to evaluate the design workflow before choosing a distribution.

However, browser access is not feature parity. The user guide marks photo creation, video creation, OBJ export, plug-ins, and model imports as unavailable in Online and Mobile. The September 2023 Mobile announcement also excludes printing, photo and video creation, and plug-ins. Choose based on the deliverable, not only on whether the initial download costs money.

The download page describes Mobile as containing more than 10,000 furniture pieces and 400 textures. That official “paid version” wording should be read alongside the current store purchase screens, not substituted for their subscription terms.

Weekly, monthly, or annual: the cost math

Computed from the listed US iOS prices, $2.99/week multiplied by 52 is $155.48/year, compared with the listed $29.99/year option. This is billing arithmetic, not a claim that those offers have identical entitlements or that a particular account can select both.

Likewise, the Mac listing’s $19.99/month multiplied by 12 is $239.88/year, compared with listed annual prices of $49.99 or $69.99. A short evaluation and a year-long workflow need different budgets. Before committing annually, confirm the available offer, renewal period, and premium features in your own checkout. Do not infer a Windows annual price from Apple’s figures or treat Google’s per-item range as a monthly subscription quote.

Student, education, and team pricing

Student and education pricing: Not published (checked October 2026). There is no separate student plan published in the cited free-use FAQ or download options; students can use the same free GPL desktop version as anyone else. Free access here is not a temporary student discount.

Seat and team rates are also Not published (checked October 2026). Sweet Home 3D for Enterprise targets professional teams with custom or branded product libraries and analytics, but its pricing route is “Contact Us.” Ask for a quote rather than multiplying a consumer subscription by headcount and calling that an enterprise budget.

What costs extra, and what can you export?

Nothing extra is required to pay for the GPL desktop version under the free-use terms; a donation is optional. Store premium subscriptions are a separate purchase decision. If a larger bundled library is your reason to pay, compare the specific platform’s catalog counts rather than assuming every edition contains the same collection.

For output, the desktop user guide documents Create photo as a PNG of the 3D view, Create video, and Export to OBJ. It describes exporting OBJ for rendering in other tools such as Blender. If your goal is a photoreal presentation, distinguish the planning tool budget from any downstream rendering tool you choose; exporting a model does not itself establish that other tool’s cost.

When Sweet Home 3D makes sense, and when to consider an alternative

Sweet Home 3D makes sense when you want the free GPL desktop route and the documented desktop photo or OBJ workflow. Consider an alternative rendering step when you already have a design and want to turn it into a photoreal presentation rather than choose another furniture catalog.

Render a House is an AI rendering tool for architects and real estate. It is a no-GPU, browser-based alternative for rendering from your own design: upload a Sweet Home 3D plan or 3D-view screenshot as PNG/JPG, or an exported OBJ. Other supported inputs include SketchUp .skp directly, GLB/GLTF/OBJ/STL, sketches, photos, and plans exported to PNG/JPG. Large images are downscaled automatically.

Free access includes 3 credits/day at 1K with a watermark and no card. Standard rendering costs 1 credit at 1K. Pro is $39/month billed monthly, or $312/year ($26/month billed annually), with 240 credits/month. 4K is available only on Pro; video requires a paid plan. Renders take about 30–60 seconds, with up to 2 free retries per render for bad results.

There are no team seats or roles, but projects can be shared by email with edit access. Support is available through Intercom chat in the app and the support page. Compare a realistic workload in the render cost calculator instead of equating a design subscription with a rendering allowance.
