Material
What to export from Revit.
Render a House does not open .rvt files, and Revit does not write GLB, GLTF or OBJ either. Its File > Export menu writes DWG, DXF, DGN, SAT, DWF, IFC, gbXML, NWC and FBX, among others. Two routes still get you there — one through FBX and a conversion step, one through a plain image.

What this cannot do.
- Open a .rvt file. Export a view as an image, or an FBX you convert first — there is no direct Revit import.
- Produce construction documents, BIM data, or anything dimensionally reliable.
- Guarantee every detail survives. Thin mullions, small hardware and text on signage are the usual casualties.
- Inherit the camera you set. The model carries no usable one, so you frame the shot in the 3D view after uploading.
- Replace Autodesk Raytracer when a client is paying for a final image in the exact materials the model specifies.
Common questions about Revit rendering.
Can Render a House open a Revit .rvt file?
No. Export first. File tab > Export > Images and Animations writes a PNG or JPEG of a view, and File > Export > FBX writes a mesh you can convert to GLB or OBJ in a free tool such as Blender. Revit itself does not write GLB, GLTF or OBJ.
Does Revit export GLB or OBJ?
No. Autodesk's published export list for Revit is DWG, DXF, DGN, SAT, DWF and DWFx, ADSK, FBX, NWC, gbXML, IFC and ODBC. FBX is the one that converts cleanly, and the conversion happens outside Autodesk's tools.
Do I need a plugin or an add-in for Revit?
No. Nothing is installed into Revit. You export a file the way you already would, then upload it in a browser, so the workflow is unaffected by your Revit version or add-in set.
Can I render a Revit model on a Mac?
Yes, because the rendering does not happen in Revit. Revit has no Mac build, so the usual route is Parallels or a Windows machine. Once a view is exported as an image, this runs in any browser on any operating system.
How is this different from Autodesk Raytracer?
Autodesk Raytracer is Revit's own physically based engine, rendering the model with the materials you assigned, on your hardware. This works from an export and is directed with a written description. Raytracer gives more control over an exact specification; this gets to a presentable image sooner and lets you try more directions per hour.
Do I need a graphics card to render a Revit view?
No. Rendering runs on hosted hardware. The GPU in your machine drives how Revit navigates a model; Autodesk Raytracer is CPU-only, so your processor is what decides how fast a local render finishes. Neither affects how fast a render comes back here.
Can I use Revit renders in client work?
Yes. Renders you generate are yours to use commercially. Review them first — an AI render is a concept image and should be checked against the model before it stands in for a design decision.
