ChatGPT Pricing 2026: Free, Go ($8), Plus ($20), Pro ($100–$500) & Business

ChatGPT costs $0 on Free, $8 a month on Go, $20 a month on Plus, and $100, $200 or $500 a month on Pro, all billed monthly with no annual option. Teams pay per seat on Business: $25 per user per month billed monthly or $20 billed annually for a Standard seat. Enterprise is custom pricing. For architecture, Render a House is the more efficient alternative: it renders from your own design in the browser with no GPU; failed renders don't use credits, and each render includes up to 2 free retries if the result isn't right.

What each ChatGPT plan includes

Free — $0

Unlimited everyday text chats, plus limited uploads, image creation, voice, deep research, memory and Codex. The Free tier FAQ says tools such as image generation and file uploads have their own limits, you wait for a reset when you hit one, and ads may appear on Free in certain countries.

Go — $8/mo

$8 a month for more messages with tools, more uploads, more image creation and longer memory. The pricing page notes Go may include ads, and the Go help article says it is billed monthly, is available in all ChatGPT-supported countries, and does not include API usage.

Plus — $20/mo

$20 a month, billed monthly, per the Plus help article. It adds advanced reasoning models, expanded messages and uploads, more complex and accurate image creation, expanded deep research, projects and scheduled tasks. OpenAI says Plus may still have message caps during high demand.

Pro — $100, $200 or $500/mo

Three monthly tiers, per About ChatGPT Pro tiers: Pro 100 at $100, Pro 200 at $200 and Pro 500 at $500 a month. Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100; only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast mode. All tiers add Pro reasoning, longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions, maximum deep research and unlimited, faster image creation.

Business — from $20/seat

Seats, not users, are what you buy. The Business overview lists a Standard seat at $25 per user per month on a monthly plan or $20 per user per month billed annually, and a Premium seat at $125 or $100, with 5× the usage of Standard and no 5-hour limit. A workspace needs at least 2 seats, and the pricing page says Business is for teams of 2–200 employees, with SSO, admin controls and no training on business data by default.

Enterprise — custom

Custom pricing through sales. The pricing page lists SCIM, EKM, role-based access, data residency in ten regions, 24/7 priority support and invoicing with volume discounts; credit-based and token-based pricing are available, per the Enterprise help article. Per-seat Enterprise price: Not published (checked October 2026).

Annual vs monthly billing

Annual billing only exists on Business and Enterprise. OpenAI’s Plus and Go articles say annual billing and paying several months in advance are not supported for Go, Plus or Pro. On Business, the math per seat is:

ChatGPT Business seat cost, monthly vs annual billing
SeatMonthly plan, per yearAnnual plan, per yearAnnual saving per seat
Standard$300 ($25 × 12)$240 ($20 × 12)$60
Premium$1,500 ($125 × 12)$1,200 ($100 × 12)$300

That is a 20% discount for committing to a year. The cheapest possible Business workspace, 2 Standard seats on an annual plan, costs $480 a year ($40 a month); on a monthly plan it is $50 a month.

Student and education pricing

An individual student discount: Not published (checked October 2026). What OpenAI does publish:

  • ChatGPT Edu for universities, sold through sales, per the ChatGPT Edu page. Price: Not published (checked October 2026).
  • ChatGPT for Teachers is free for verified U.S. K–12 educators and school staff. The Teachers help article says free through June 2028 and that the plan is not for students; the pricing page FAQ still says June 2027.
  • Nonprofits can get up to a 75% discount on Business or Enterprise, per the pricing page FAQ.

Architecture students who need renders rather than chat can use the free Render a House Student plan, unlocked by referring 3 classmates, with 80 credits a month.

What costs extra

  • API usage. Not included in any ChatGPT plan; it is billed separately on the API pricing page, per million tokens. Image models there are priced per token, for example $30 per 1M output image tokens for GPT-Image-2.5.
  • Credits. Pro and Business users can buy credits to keep using eligible features (Codex, ChatGPT Work, Office add-ins) after the included allowance, per the Pro tiers article and Business overview.
  • Payment. Go, Plus, Pro and Business are paid by card; Enterprise can pay by invoice, per the pricing page FAQ.
  • Commercial use does not cost extra. OpenAI’s Terms of Use say you own the Output to the extent permitted by law, on every plan.

Image generation by plan

The pricing page describes image creation as limited on Free, more on Go, more complex and accurate on Plus, and unlimited and faster on Pro. Image counts per day, output resolution and aspect ratios per plan: Not published (checked October 2026). OpenAI’s image generation guide lists known limitations, including consistency of recurring elements across generations and precise composition control.

When ChatGPT makes sense, and when to consider an alternative

ChatGPT makes sense when you want one subscription for writing, research, code and quick visual ideas. Plus at $20 a month is enough for most individuals; Business is the honest choice for a firm that needs admin controls and no training on its data.

Consider an alternative when the image has to show a specific building. A prompt-generated image is a new picture, and the limitations OpenAI lists for consistency and composition are exactly what architects hit when a façade or window rhythm must stay put across views. Our ChatGPT for architectural rendering guide covers that workflow in detail.

Render a House is an AI rendering tool for architects and real estate. It runs in the browser with no GPU and renders from your own design: upload a SketchUp .skp file directly, a GLB, GLTF, OBJ or STL model, a sketch, a photo, or a plan exported to PNG/JPG. A render takes about 30–60 seconds, and a bad one gets up to 2 free retries.

Does ChatGPT have student pricing?

There is no published individual student discount (checked October 2026). OpenAI sells ChatGPT Edu to universities through its sales team, and ChatGPT for Teachers is free for verified U.S. K–12 educators and staff; its help article says the plan is not for students.

Can I use ChatGPT images commercially?

OpenAI's Terms of Use say that, as between you and OpenAI and to the extent permitted by law, you own the Output, and OpenAI assigns its rights in Output to you. The terms apply to every plan, and they also note that output may not be unique. No plan-specific commercial-use restriction is listed on the pricing page.

Is ChatGPT cheaper than Render a House for architectural renders?

ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month; Render a House Pro is $39 a month billed monthly or $312 a year ($26 a month billed annually), and there is a free plan with 3 credits a day. The difference is the input: Render a House renders your own SketchUp, GLB, OBJ or STL model, sketch or plan image and keeps the geometry, while ChatGPT generates a new image from a prompt.
