Nano Banana Pricing 2026: Gemini API Cost per Image ($0.0336–$0.24) & Google AI Plans ($0–$199.99/mo)

Nano Banana, Google’s Gemini image generation and editing model, costs $0.0336 to $0.24 per image on the Gemini API depending on the model and resolution, and half that in Batch mode. In the Gemini app it is free with usage limits, and the Google AI plans that raise those limits cost $4.99, $19.99, or $99.99 to $199.99 a month. For architecture, Render a House is the more efficient alternative: it renders from your own design in the browser with no GPU; failed renders don't use credits, and each render includes up to 2 free retries if the result isn't right.

Gemini API price per image

Developers pay per output image. Google prices image output in tokens and converts it to a per-image figure on the Gemini API pricing page; the table below uses those per-image figures for the paid tier.

Resolution support follows Google’s image generation docs: 1K, 2K and 4K output, 0.5K only on Nano Banana 2, and 1K only on Nano Banana 2 Lite. The original Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image) is still priced on the page, but Google marks it deprecated with a shutdown date of October 2, 2026, so plan new work on the newer models. The free tier shows “Not available” for every image model.

Batch, grounding and input costs

  • Batch API: half price on every image model above, per the pricing page, in exchange for asynchronous processing. Nano Banana Pro also lists Flex at the Batch rate and Priority at $216 per 1M image tokens.
  • Input: text and reference images are billed as input tokens, for example $1.50 per 1M tokens on Nano Banana 2.1 and $2.00 per 1M on Nano Banana Pro, which Google equates to about $0.0011 per input image. The docs allow up to 14 reference images per request.
  • Grounding with Google Search: 5,000 free search requests per month shared across Gemini 3 and newer models, then $14 per 1,000 requests.

Nano Banana in the Gemini app: Google AI plans

Most people use Nano Banana inside the Gemini app. Google sells access through Google AI plans, listed on gemini.google/subscriptions and Google One.

Free plan and limits

The free plan includes image generation and editing. Google’s image generation page says Nano Banana is available for free and that a Google AI plan unlocks Nano Banana 2.1. Per the Gemini Apps limits page, limits are compute-based, refresh every 5 hours until you reach a weekly limit, and image generation uses more of the allowance than text. A fixed number of images per day: Not published (checked October 2026). Free trial of a paid plan: Not published on the plans page (checked October 2026).

Google AI Plus — $4.99/mo

Twice the free usage limits, the Flash model, 200 Google Flow credits, more access to Nano Banana in Search and 400 GB of storage, per the plans page.

Google AI Pro — $19.99/mo

Four times the free usage limits, the Pro and Flash models, 1,000 Google Flow credits, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, and 5 TB of storage. Google One lists family sharing with up to five others on the paid plans.

Google AI Ultra — from $99.99/mo

$99.99/month for 5x the AI Pro limits or $199.99/month for 20x, with 10,000 or 25,000 Google Flow credits and storage starting at 20 TB. Per-seat or team pricing for personal plans: Not published (checked October 2026); work accounts go through Google’s Business tab instead.

Annual vs monthly math

The Google One page shows an annual option only for AI Pro: $199.99 a year, or $16.67 a month. Twelve monthly payments of $19.99 come to $239.88, so paying yearly saves $39.89. Annual prices for AI Plus and AI Ultra: Not published (checked October 2026).

Student and education pricing

Google’s Gemini for students page offers a free student plan for 1 year with 4x higher usage limits and 5 TB of storage, and the image generation page says college students can unlock higher access to Nano Banana with a free Pro plan for one year. API education pricing: Not published (checked October 2026).

What costs extra

  • Higher resolution on the API: a 4K image costs about 1.8x the 1K price on Nano Banana Pro, 2.3x on Nano Banana 2 and 3.4x on Nano Banana 2.1.
  • Retries: each regenerated API image is billed again; the pricing page lists no free retries.
  • Search grounding beyond the 5,000 free monthly requests, at $14 per 1,000.
  • Watermark: Google’s image docs say all generated images include a SynthID watermark; no plan removes it.
  • Commercial use terms: Not published on the pricing or plans pages (checked October 2026); read Google’s terms before client work.

When Nano Banana makes sense

Nano Banana is good value for quick concept images, style tests and photo edits: the free Gemini plan covers light use, and the API is cheap enough per image to build into your own tools. Our Nano Banana for architecture guide covers where it helps in practice and our prompt guide has templates.

When to consider an alternative

Render a House is an AI rendering tool for architects and real estate. It runs in the browser with no GPU and no API code, and it starts from your own design: upload a SketchUp .skp directly, a GLB, GLTF, OBJ or STL model, a sketch, a photo, or a plan exported to PNG/JPG. Large images are downscaled automatically, and renders take about 30–60 seconds.

Free is 3 credits a day at 1K with a watermark, no card required. Pro is $39/month billed monthly or $312/year ($26/month billed annually) for 240 credits a month. A 1K render costs 1 credit, 2K costs 1.5 and 4K costs 2; 4K is only on Pro, and video is on paid plans only. A bad render gets up to 2 free retries, projects can be shared by email with edit access (there are no team seats or roles), and support is in the app chat and on the support page. Compare plans on pricing or estimate a project with the render cost calculator.

Common questions about Nano Banana pricing

How much does Nano Banana cost per image?

On the Gemini API paid tier, Google’s pricing page lists Nano Banana 2.1 at $0.0336 per 1K image, $0.0504 per 2K and $0.113 per 4K; Nano Banana 2 at $0.067 per 1K, $0.101 per 2K and $0.151 per 4K; Nano Banana 2 Lite at $0.0336 per 1K image; and Nano Banana Pro at $0.134 per 1K or 2K image and $0.24 per 4K image. The Batch API halves those prices.

Is Nano Banana free?

In the Gemini app, yes: the free plan ($0 per month with a Google Account) includes image generation and editing, within compute-based usage limits that refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap. On the Gemini API, the image models show the free tier as “Not available”, so every API image is billed.

How many Nano Banana images do you get with Google AI Pro?

Google does not publish an image count. Its Gemini Apps limits page says limits are compute-based and that AI Pro gets 4x the standard limits, AI Plus 2x, and AI Ultra 5x or 20x the AI Pro limits depending on the subscription. A fixed number of images per day: Not published (checked October 2026).

Is there a Nano Banana student discount?

Google’s Gemini students page offers a free student plan for 1 year, with 4x higher usage limits in Gemini and 5 TB of storage, and its image-generation page says college students can unlock higher access to Nano Banana with a free Pro plan for one year.

Is Nano Banana cheaper than Render a House?

Per generated image, usually yes: a 1K Nano Banana 2.1 API image is $0.0336, while a 1K Render a House render costs 1 credit, about $0.16 on Pro billed monthly. The difference is the workflow: Render a House renders your own SketchUp, GLB, OBJ or STL model, sketch or photo in the browser, with no API code and no GPU.
